PSAT/NMSQT

Most families think of the PSAT as a practice run. It’s also the only path to National Merit recognition — a distinction that can strengthen an application and lead to valuable scholarships. We prepare students to compete for that qualifying score while building the strategic foundation that carries directly into the SAT.

SSAT/ISEE

The SSAT and ISEE are the admissions tests for private and independent schools, offered at multiple levels from elementary through upper school. We prepare students for every level, and for SSAT applicants we also offer guidance on the Character Skills Snapshot, which many independent schools consider alongside the rest of the application.

“I finally received my ACT score from the April 19 test, and my score went up 10 points! I scored a 33, a significant improvement from my 23 just six months ago. I wanted to thank you again for all the advice you gave me and the productive and interesting conversations we had.”

Common Questions

The answers, honestly.

Still have questions? A quick conversation is often the fastest way to find the clarity you need.

How do I know which test my student should take?

Your tutor will help you determine the best fit based on your academic background, goals, timeline, and the schools or programs you’re targeting. Whether you’re choosing between the SAT and ACT, preparing for graduate or professional school admissions, or planning for another standardized test, we’ll help you develop the right strategy.

How early should we start test preparation?

It depends on the exam, your goals, and your timeline. We generally recommend beginning preparation several months before your intended test date, giving you time to build skills, gain confidence, and, if appropriate, plan for a retake. For example, many SAT and ACT students begin preparing during sophomore or junior year, while other exams follow different testing calendars. Your tutor will help you create a preparation schedule that fits your goals and application timeline.

Is the tutoring done in person or virtually?

All tutoring is conducted virtually, giving students the flexibility to work one-on-one with experienced tutors regardless of location. Sessions are scheduled around your student’s academic, extracurricular, and family commitments.

Do I have to be a private counseling student to purchase tutoring prep with TTA?

No. Tutoring is available independently, though it is also an important part of our broader admissions support.
For students enrolled in our counseling programs, tutors and counselors coordinate directly, ensuring that testing strategy, course selection, and the broader application timeline work together as part of one cohesive plan.
Every tutoring program is one-on-one and tailored to the individual student.

How does pricing work?

Test preparation may be purchased as a standalone service or included as part of a Top Tier Admissions Private Counseling program. Standalone tutoring is offered in flexible hour packages tailored to your student’s exam, goals, and timeline. We’ll help you determine the approach that’s the best fit.
